What does sexual dysfunction mean?

What does sexual dysfunction mean? Sexual disorder, also known as sexual dysfunction, is a common clinical disease. It refers to the inability to perform normal sexual behavior or the inability to obtain satisfaction in normal sexual behavior. It mainly includes erectile dysfunction, ejaculation dysfunction and sexual desire disorder. Erectile dysfunction is divided into psychological erectile dysfunction, organic erectile dysfunction and mixed erectile dysfunction. Ejaculation dysfunction is divided into premature ejaculation, delayed ejaculation and retrograde ejaculation.

Causes

The causes of sexual dysfunction can be roughly divided into three categories: biological factors, psychological factors and cultural factors.

1. Biological factors

Sexual dysfunction may be caused by many reasons, including genetics, health status, hormone levels, age, disease (including chronic diseases, neuropsychiatric disorders, endocrine diseases, reproductive organ diseases), etc. People who take drugs, drink alcohol or take drugs for a long time may also experience sexual dysfunction.

2. Psychological factors

The impact of mental and psychological factors on sexual function is more prominent, including wrong sexual concepts, the influence of past sexual experiences, environmental factors, tense interpersonal relationships and negative emotions caused by various external factors.

3. Cultural factors

Due to the influence of religious and cultural background, some people have prejudices against sex life (for example, they believe that "one drop of semen is equal to ten drops of blood"), and think that sexual intercourse will deplete vitality. Subjectively, they want to give up or reduce sexual activity, which can easily lead to sexual repression.

Clinical manifestations

Sexual dysfunction can generally be divided into two categories: functional sexual dysfunction and organic sexual dysfunction. Male sexual dysfunction includes sexual desire disorder, erectile dysfunction, sexual intercourse disorder and ejaculation disorder. Female sexual dysfunction includes sexual desire disorder, sexual arousal disorder, orgasm disorder, and dyspareunia.

1. Sexual desire disorder

Including sexual aversion, low sexual desire, and hypersexuality.

2. Erectile dysfunction

It refers to the persistent inability to achieve and maintain a sufficient erection for satisfactory sexual intercourse.

3. Sexual intercourse disorder

The clinical manifestations of sexual intercourse disorders include sexual syncope, sexual aphasia, sexual hysteria, sudden death during sexual intercourse, sexual phobia, etc.

4. Ejaculation disorders

Including anejaculation, delayed ejaculation, retrograde ejaculation, weak ejaculation, premature ejaculation and painful ejaculation. Among them, anejaculation refers to the fact that the penis can erect normally and have sexual intercourse, but cannot ejaculate semen, or can ejaculate semen under other circumstances but not in the vagina. Retrograde ejaculation is when the penis can erect and engage in sexual intercourse, and ejaculate with orgasm, but the semen fails to be ejected out of the urethra and flows back through the bladder neck into the bladder.

5. Sexual arousal disorder

Refers to the persistent or recurring inability to obtain and maintain adequate sexual excitement, manifested as a lack of subjective excitement, sexual response in the sexual organs and other parts of the body. This includes a decrease in vaginal lubrication, sensation of the clitoris and labia, and relaxation of vaginal smooth muscles.

6. Orgasmic Disorders

It refers to persistent or repeated difficulty, delay or absence in achieving orgasm after adequate sexual stimulation and arousal.

7. Pain during sexual intercourse

It includes dyspareunia (repeated or persistent vaginal pain during sexual intercourse), vaginismus (repeated or persistent involuntary spasmodic contractions of the smooth muscles of the outer 1/3 of the vagina, interfering with penile insertion), and non-contact dyspareunia (repeated or persistent genital pain caused by non-direct sexual intercourse activities).
