Introduction to the diagnosis and treatment of urinary tract infection

Urinary tract infection is very common in our lives. The main clinical manifestations are frequent urination and urgency. Some patients also have symptoms of fever due to urinary tract infection. However, in order to confirm whether it is a urinary tract infection, some examinations and diagnoses are required. In order to make everyone clearly understand urinary tract infection, this article will introduce the diagnosis and treatment methods of urinary tract infection.

Diagnosis 1. History collection

(1) Clinical manifestations: characteristics, duration, and associated symptoms of urinary tract infection;

(2) Past medical history, medication history, and related disease history to find possible causes of the disease, concomitant diseases, previous drug treatment history, and factors that may affect the development and outcome of the disease;

2. Physical examination

Includes examination of the urogenital organs; physical examination of the abdomen and kidney area. Pelvic and rectal examinations are helpful in identifying other concurrent diseases.

3. Auxiliary examination

(1) Laboratory tests include routine blood tests, routine urine tests, urine smear microscopic examination for bacteria, midstream urine bacterial culture + drug sensitivity, blood bacterial culture + drug sensitivity, and renal function tests;

(2) Imaging examinations include ultrasound, abdominal plain film, intravenous pyelography, etc. CT or MRI examinations can be selected if necessary.

Urinary tract infection treatment

1. Combination of Chinese and Western medicine: Combination of Chinese and Western medicine, treating both the symptoms and the root cause, Western medicine quickly treats the symptoms, and Chinese medicine thoroughly treats the root cause, which is the best combination of medicines for urethritis. Especially for recurrent attacks, Chinese medicine should be used to consolidate treatment.

2. Specific examination method: Using specific methods, trachoma iatrogenic organisms can be isolated from 42% of male non-sexual urethra. During routine examination and bacterial culture, no pathogen is found in about 90% of non-gonococcal urethritis, so this type of infection is called nonspecific urethritis. In addition, Trichomonas and Candida are also common pathogens of non-gonococcal urethritis.

3. Drug sensitivity test: The treatment method of urinary tract infection is also reflected in the drug sensitivity test. Drug sensitivity test must be done. Do not use antibiotics blindly. Blind use of antibiotics can easily lead to drug resistance, resulting in repeated urethritis, dysbacteriosis, and difficulty in treatment. Whenever possible, choose antibiotics with high concentrations in urine or target organs. The course of treatment should be sufficient. The use of antibiotics should continue until 2 weeks after symptoms disappear and urine culture turns negative.

The above is an introduction to the diagnosis and treatment of urinary tract infection. Here we need to remind all friends that some viruses that cause urinary tract infection are contagious, such as mycoplasma and chlamydia. If it is caused by these reasons, the patient’s family must do a good job of disease prevention and do not use the same bath towel with the patient to avoid urinary tract infection themselves.
