Is it normal for a man to only have one penis left?

It is common for men to have only one testicle. For example, some people are born with only one testicle due to congenital unilateral agenesis; some people have had one testicle removed due to disease or injury; and some patients discover that they have only one testicle in their scrotum during a pre-marital examination.

These patients are often troubled by the fact that they are missing one testicle and worry whether this will affect their sexual desire and function. Or will it affect marriage and childbirth?

When it comes to the lack of a testicle, many people will naturally think of the eunuchs in the palace, who have incomplete male sexual development and have lost their sexual desire and sexual function. In fact, this is a misunderstanding. The reason why eunuchs lost some of their male characteristics is that their testicles on both sides were removed.

The testicles are organs that produce male hormones. If one loses the testicles and does not receive male hormone treatment, the above-mentioned series of "castration" symptoms will naturally occur, and one will also lose sexual desire and sexual ability. However, if only one testicle remains, the situation will be very different.

There are many organs in the human body that exist in pairs, such as the lungs and kidneys. This type of organ has a characteristic that once one side of the organ loses its function or is defective, the normal organ on the other side will take on the functions of both organs, while increasing its own size and enhancing its function. This is medically called compensatory hypertrophy.

In hospitals, urologists often perform this type of surgery, removing the diseased kidney. In some patients, half of the other kidney is also removed. However, the remaining half of the kidney can still work normally and excrete metabolic waste from the body through the kidneys.

The same is true for testicles. Although there is only one testicle, as long as it is healthy and normal, it can still function as both testicles, and patients do not have to worry about becoming "eunuchs."
